Owning a Versatile Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS Will Change Your Life!

No matter where you live, it is always beneficial to own a car that can handle it all. While most would consider owning a large truck when it comes to handling things like rain, ice or snow, off road driving or even a cross country trip, for those of us who prefer owning a subcompact there is still hope thanks to the Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS.

High Performance Compact

If you are in the market for a rare, yet high-performance compact sedan that you can show off to your fellow motorsports fans, then it is a good idea to look into the old school Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS.

Built between 1998 and 2005, the Impreza 2.5 RS was developed in a limited capacity, which makes it rarer than most sporty vehicles including most overpriced Ferrari’s. While each model is made a little different, I personally like that Subaru continued to keep the well-known brand style.

In fact, the Subaru Impreza is known as “the most Subaru looking car ever made” and the introductory model became famous in a way that made me make take notice – as a rally car.

Thanks to its big hood scoop, which helps keep the engine cool while taking on some of the toughest racing challenges available, the Subaru Impreza is still powerful enough to be one of the fastest and best rally race cars ever.

Impressive All-Wheel Drive

Although torque vectoring and electronic differentials are becoming more popular, this Subaru model was built with the Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system. This system, which moves the torque coming from the engine evenly between the front and rear axles, makes sure that each Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS model corners like a rear wheel drive.

I guess that this explains why this compact car has done so well taking on some of the toughest challenges that the Global Rallycross series could throw at it?

While I think that it is cool that this system helps the Impreza handle like a sports car, being the motorsports fan that I am, it is even better to know that this all-wheel-drive system also makes traveling in snow, mud, rain or whatever else easier.

Easily Interchangeable

For an everyday ride the stock version of the Subaru Impreza 2.5RS is loaded with an engine that, in this car lover’s opinion, offers plenty of power for the average commute (165 HP to be exact).

On the other side of the coin are those who are interested in the racier side of the Impreza. Like the Product Launch Specialist of Subaru of America mentions in this video, the possibilities are endless when it comes to creating the rally car of your dreams.

Along with having the option to drop in a motor from a newer WRX/STi, which can increase the power up to 300+ HP with the simple turning of a few bolts, this interchangeable vehicle also offers the opportunity to upgrade the suspension, transmission (manual or automatic) and brakes to ensure that your upgraded model has all matching parts.

Built for Comfort

Despite being a versatile sports car of sorts, who would want to own any Subaru sedan if it wasn’t comfortable? While most rally cars might not offer the plush seating of the average daily driver, I would not say that this is the case for the Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS.

Built for Comfort Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS

With best in class seats that were built for driver coziness and lateral support along with ergonomics and easy to see instrumentation, it is easy to see why a driver of any sort – including this average driver would enjoy driving this old school Subaru.

For all those want to be rally car drivers out there, the 2002-2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS can include aggressive sport seats as well as a black-leather-trimmed shifter handbrake and steering wheel.

All the Guts Without the Glory

Now that I have spent most of my words on why you should want to check out any of the available Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS models for yourself, let me tell you what is lacking in this old school model. Besides, what is a true review of any vehicle without a little honesty?

If you are in the market for a vehicle with the latest and greatest in technology like a backup camera, Bluetooth smart phone capability or even the latest in safety equipment then you are barking up the wrong tree.

Although tweaks can be made to this Subaru subcompact, trying to turn this old school Subaru into a 2018 sedan is virtually impossible! So, if you prefer a powerful sports car that can go from 0 to 60 MPH in seconds all while giving you virtual directions to the closest race track it is time to think about a newer model.

Old School Power and Versatility Without Breaking the Bank

The last, but the most important, decision when considering the purchase of any vehicle – whether new or used – is what can you afford?

Along with the other plus sides that I mentioned earlier in this review, if you are considering the purchase of this old school sports car you are in luck because you can pick up a Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS for less than $7,000.

If you are a car guy or gal who wants to showcase your talent for turning something good into something phenomenal, adding what is necessary is also very affordable. For example, a JDM catback exhaust kit, a full aluminum 2-Row Racing Radiator.
